“I’ve recently begun attending the Men’s Circle at Agnes Water, facilitated by Aaron Schultz. I began attending them because I had a family friend who took his own life at the age of 61. He was a man of good health, vibrant and always the “life of the party”. I thought to myself “if he had the opportunity to attend gatherings such as ‘Men’s Circle’, he may still be with us today.” What I like about the meetings is that it is an alcohol-free zone, and each attendee has the opportunity to speak if they wish, or they can just listen. There is no pressure or judgement on anyone, no ego, and everyone is open and honest. I also like the idea that there is no committee, no membership fee or expectations, and everyone honours this by showing respect for all of the others in the room. We, as males, tend to bottle up our feelings and concerns and keep them contained within. The Men’s Circle is a great opportunity for us to listen or express ourselves, knowing that there is a high degree of respect for every attendee in the room. It’s a great space to share without judgement and to grow as an individual.”
